Columbia Pacific (ColPac) Maritime Fall 2024

There are several announcements in this Columbia Pacific (ColPac) Maritime Fall 2024 newsletter. Firstly, an introduction of the Columbia Pacific Maritime Scholarship Foundation. Secondly, a list of the core classes we are focusing on. The last is the fall 2024 schedule. To summarize, our enrollment is up, and this looks like it will be a record-breaking fall 2024 at CloPac Maritime. So, if you need a class, call Patty at 503-841-6066 while there is still room.

The most challenging part of getting a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) has always been the USCG application process. But not anymore, MM-Seas has simplified the process. This online application software that is always FREE, or $349 if you file with them (includes gov.pay fees). We recommend that you start the application process ASAP before taking the class.

Columbia Pacific Maritime Scholarship Foundation

Fall of 2023 ColPac Maritime partnered with SWOCC Foundation to create the Columbia Pacific Maritime Scholarship Foundation. In short, the intend of this is to help veterans transition into the small passenger vessel and towing vessel fleet. Additionally, it will help commercial fisherman use their experience from the fishing industry to get professionally licensed.

1st Annual Alumni Day, June 7, 2025

The 1st Annual Alumni Day will be Saturday, June 7, 2025. The event will be at the Columbia Pacific Maritime building on the SWOCC campus in Coos Bay. It will celebrate over 30-years of maritime education. There will be free food and ice cream. guest speakers, an open mike, and trivia games and prizes. During the event we will be seeking donations to the Columbia Pacific Maritime Scholarship Foundation.

ColPac Maritime: Core Classes

ColPac Maritime is a small school. We can’t be everything to everyone. As a result, our focus is to offer in-person classes for Towing Vessels and other vessels less than 200 GRT. We now focus on six scheduled core classes, plus three other classes.

1. Master 100-ton Class. This is ten-day class meets the exam requirements for the Master 25, 50, or 100-ton and the OUPV (6-pack). Additionally, it is for either an Inland or Near Coastal route. The cost of this class is $1,300 and it is scheduled once a month, Monday through Friday, over two weeks.
2. Upgrade 100 to 200-ton Class. This three-day class meets the exam requirements for a raise in grade from 25, 50, or 100-ton to 200-ton. It will also increase the scope of Master or Mate 200-ton or less from Inland to Near Coastal. The cost of this class is $700. Lastly, it is scheduled Monday through Wednesday the week after the Master 100-ton Class. The result is a convenient two class sequence.
3. Apprentice Mate (steersman) of Towing Upgrade Class. This two-day class meets the exam requirements for Apprentice Mate (steersman). IF the mariner holds a Master 200-ton license OR has completed the 200-ton exams within one year. The cost of this class is $500. Lastly, it is scheduled Thursday and Friday after the Upgrade 100 to 200-ton Class. Making a convenient two or three class sequence depending on the needs of the mariner.
4. Radar Observer Unlimited Class. This four-day, $700 class meets the National and STCW assessment requirements for deck watch officers. Additionally, it is schedule before and or after the above class sequences.
5. Able Body Seaman (AB) Class. This five-day, $800 class meets the training and exam requirements for any AB rating.
6. Tankerman PIC Dangerous Liquid Class. This five-day, $800 class meets the training and exam requirements for Tankerman PIC, Engineer, and Assistant.

Classes Available by Appointment

ColPac Maritime offers three classes by appointment. These classes are available any day the school is open, depending on instructor and classroom availability. Additionally, they are scheduled for one mariner at a time, no minimum enrollment. Please call for more information or to schedule.

1. Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA). 4-days, $700.
2. Radar Re-certification (Renewal). 1-day, $250.
3. Assistance Towing. 1/2 day (4-hours), $150.
