The Radar Observer Unlimited Class is a great addition to your MMC for anyone that operates a radar equipped vessel. This five-day class satisfies both the National and STCW Assessments for any radar equipped vessel. It is also required to operate towing vessels over 26-feet in length. The class is scheduled once a month, Monday thru Friday.

Radar Observer Unlimited Class Overview
The course lessons provide an in-depth study of the application of radar for both navigation and collision avoidance. Hands-on instruction is provided using Buffalo Computer Graphics (BCG) PC Radar Simulators. Subjects covered in the class include:
- Radar theory and operation.
- Laws and regulations governing the operation of radar.
- The application of radar for navigation and collision avoidance.
Radar Renewal
The Radar Observer Endorsement expires ever five-years with your MMC book. There are two options for renewing it, sea service experience, or an approved class.
Renew with sea-time. Document 360-days experience in the last five-years using radar for navigation and collision avoidance on radar equipped vessels will renew your Radar Observer Endorsement. Reference 46 CFR 11.480(g) for the correct wording of the sea service letter.
