Uninspected Fishing Industry Vessel endorsements are issued as Master or Mate 500 to 5,000-tons. Master is the officer in charge of the entire vessel; while the Mate stands a navigation watch.
Uninspected Fishing Industry Vessel Requirements
Mate of Uninspected Fishing Industry Vessel requires a total of three-years (1080-days) of sea service experience. The total days of experience must include both of the following. First, it must include 540-days on near coastal ocean waters. And second, at least 360-days on vessels greater than 50 GRT. View the checklist for specific requirements.
Master of Uninspected Fishing Industry vessel requires a total of four-years (1440-days) of sea service experience. The total days of experience must include all of the following. First, it must include 720-days on near coastal ocean waters. Second, it must include 720-days on vessels greater than 50 GRT. Additionally, the 720-days on vessels greater than 50 GRT must include 360-days as master or mate while holding an endorsement as Master, Mate, or OUPV. View the checklist for specific requirements.
Other professional requirements include completion of an approved Advanced Firefighting course. And demonstration of professional knowledge through examination, or completion of an approved course.
Uninspected Fishing Industry Vessel Course
Uninspected Fishing Industry Vessel Upgrade Course Only (2-days / $400)
Mariners holding a valid 150-ton or higher Near Coastal endorsement may complete this Master or Mate of Fishing Vessel course.
This course may be scheduled any Monday and Tuesday the school is open. Or, as an alternative it may be scheduled on Thursday or Friday. Call 503-841-6066 for scheduling options.
Partial Course (2-course sequence, 6-days / $1,000)
This two-course Master or Mate of Fishing Vessel sequence includes the Upgrade Master 100 to 200-ton, and the Master / Mate of Uninspected Fishing Vessel Upgrade courses. To qualify for this course sequence the applicant must hold a 150-ton or greater Near Coastal endorsement. Additionally these two courses must be taken in sequence; meaning that the Upgrade Master 100 to 200-ton must be completed before taking the Master / Mate of Fishing Upgrade course.
Full Course (3-course sequence, 16-days / $2,200)
This three-course Master or Mate of Fishing Vessel sequence must be completed in order. But as an alternative to consecutive days it may be scheduled as two or three separate courses. The first course in the sequence is Master 100-ton. The second course is Upgrade Master 100 to 200-ton. And the third course is the Apprentice Mate Upgrade.
