What’s New at ColPac

Here is what’s new at ColPac. Firstly, a Tankerman PIC class starts on Nov 29, 2021. Secondly, the towing industry needs Able Seaman and QMED. And, thirdly, the NMC has changed policy for uninspected FV classes.

Able Seaman and QMED needed in the towing fleet

Secondly, mariners with Able Seaman ratings are in high demand. Consequently, Sause is looking for Able Seaman who want to earn their QMED rating. But Sause Bros is not the only towing company looking to hire ABs. Additionally, just about every west coast towing company is looking for deck crew.

To qualify for AB you need 360-days of experience on any vessel operating on any navigable waterway. We offer a 5-day, $700 AB class.

AB Schedule:

  • Feb 7, 2022
  • Mar 21, 2022

Master / Mate of Fishing NMC Policy Change

Thirdly, the NMC has changed its policy towards Master and Mate of Fishing Vessel classes. For several decades the National Maritime Center (NMC) has approved classes in lieu of testing for Master and Mate of Uninspected Fishing Industry Vessels with tonnage limits of from 500 to 5,000 GRT. A recent change is policy cancels these approvals after Jan 31, 2022. Therefore, if you want to take this course you need to complete it before Jan 31, 2022.

Schedule options:

  • Oct 18 – Nov 2, 2021
  • Nov 8 – Nov 23, 2021
  • Nov 29 – Dec 14, 2021
  • Jan 3 – Jan 18, 2022
