First aid / CPR class now available

First Aid / CPR classes are now available through Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC). Here is what you need to know. Firstly, this is an in-person class. Secondly the Coast Guard accepts this class as meeting the requirements for standard first aid and CPR training for the original issue of an OUPV, Mate, or Master endorsement. Thirdly, the cost of the class is $110. Lastly, please contact Mike Will at 541-217-6579 for more information or to enroll.

2021 Winter / Spring Jobs Summary List

The following is a short summary of the job opportunities that have come up since January 2021. Some of these positions have filled. While others may still be available.

US Virgin Island (Kindred Spirit). There is a shortage of licensed captains to operate charter yachts in the US Virgin Islands. The minimum license requirements are OUPV or Master 25-ton with a near coastal route. Email for more information.

Tuna Fishing Jobs. There are several west coast tuna boats looking for crew. The best way to find these jobs is to pound the dock with your sea-bag in hand. Although there are several posting on the FaceBook group Commercial Salmon, Albacore, and Crab Fishers. In conclusion, be ready to invest some labor before the season begins.

Charter Boat Captain. Many charter boat and fishing guide outfits are looking for operators. In short the license requirements for these jobs range from OUPV to Master 25-ton or higher. Likewise, pound the dock or charter boat offices with your license in hand for information on who is hiring.

Echo Tours Captain. If fishing is not your thing whale watching is an exciting alternative. Consequently the license requirements for charter and guide boats is the same for echo tours. Similarly, pound the echo tour offices with your license in hand for information on who is hiring or call Carrie at 541-912-6734.

Alaska Cruise Ships. These companies generally hire mid to late winter. However, like many maritime employers, they may hire mid-season depending on need. Therefore check their website often.
