|About the TWIC ...
|The Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) is an
identification card issued by TSA (Transportation Security
Administration), NOT the US Coast Guard.
Enrollment in the TWIC program costs about $160 and takes about
- All mariners applying for an original issue of an MMC
Endorsement must enroll in the TWIC program.
- Enrollment is done through a Universal Enrollment Center (UEC).
15 to 20 minutes.
You will be required to provide some personal information, and a
government issued photo identification (a passport is the best if you
TSA will take a digital photograph and your fingerprints, which is
forwarded to the FBI to construct a background file. This background
file is assessed by:
- TSA for terrorist threats.
- USCG for criminal activity.
|Renewal of the MMC and the TWIC
|The TWIC is valid for five years.
Renewal of the TWIC requires going to a Universal Enrollment (UE)
Center and providing your personal and digital information the same
as your original enrollment.
With some exceptions noted in the instructions on form CG 719B
renewal of your MCC, which is also valid for five years, requires
renewing your TWIC as well.
