The Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) is an
identification card issued by TSA (Transportation Security
Administration), NOT the US Coast Guard. All mariners applying for
an original issue of an MMC Endorsement must enroll in the TWIC
program through the Universal Enrollment Center (UEC).
15 to 20 minutes. You will be required to provide some personal
information, and a government issued photo identification (a passport
is the best if you have one). TSA will take a digital photograph and
your fingerprints, which is forwarded to the FBI to construct a
background file. This background file is assessed by TSA for terrorist
threats, and again by the USCG for criminal activity.
The TWIC is valid for five years. Renewal of the TWIC requires going
to a Universal Enrollment (UE) Center and updating your personal
and digital information.
